Depending on the client (there are those that want army corners...$#@&) there is a very fine line between making the bed messy and making it look inviting. I think he gets it right every time.

There is a huge thunderstorm brewing overhead our neighborhood so it will be time to switch off the wifi very soon. Ours is a magnet for lightning. So I'll type this quickly... My first ever visit to a Kelly Wearstler interior was eight years ago for drinks at the Santa Monica Viceroy...I was smitten. I visited again many times. It was only four blocks from my house so would take every guest that ever visited me there for drinks or dinner. I also discovered that they don't mind you lounging around the pool all day, nice when you live in an apartment. Kelly reinvents herself on a regular basis. Never gets stuck in a look. This look might be my favorite so far.

Its the twenty minutes when my kids are bathing or the (if I'm lucky) two hours after they go to sleep that I really get to look around the great wide world of the web. Maybe I'm missing out, but not sure I am. Because this afternoon my kids helped me make the dough for our pizzas and the tomato sauce to go on them. I may not have hours to dedicate to this blog, but thats OK. I did however in my poking around find these, that will inspire all sorts of things. To save a tree

My renovation plans have had me thinking about how I can save a tree. A thirty year old Frangipani that would be right in the path of a potential garage door. I cannot bring myself to cut it down and have been researching how I could move it. Every home needs a beautiful tree, just like this one.

Christmas lunch at my moms house. After a very rainy Christmas eve, we woke on Christmas day to glorious weather. We ate and drank and then lay out in the sunny courtyard. And then much later demolished a very large berry trifle. Delish.

Amoq - Liberating furniture

I absolutely love these table legs from Amoq - Liberating furniture. The folded metal legs come in a choice of colours in a really small box along with some webbing type straps and you guessed it. Strap it on to the surface of your choice! Or use the frame option and place a surface on top of the frame. Use an old door, old floor boards almost anything. The picture rail shelves are also a fave of mine. Screw the nails into the wall and snap on the shelf. (Not sure how it works on dry wall?) Brilliant!Visit them in the flesh at 70 Juta Str, Braamfontein.

One thing South Africans do well is public holidays. I've been enjoying one of many, and apparently we just got another. The 27 of Dec has just been declared a new public holiday. Just not sure what for? Spent the whole time clearing out the garage in huge anticipation of the 'studio' renovation due to take place early next year. Yup, the one with the beloved Jelde in front of it. I've had it pinned on my 'One day I'll have one' board (I don't really have one of those, but you know what I mean) So when I stumbled upon Copenhagen based Norm Architects I was thrilled to find the 'rest' of the house. Humlebaek House to be exact. The simple concrete floors and the washed brick wall add some textural interest to an otherwise very white space. Love it all.

Have not done one of these for a while. So thought Id share what I've been making other than the dishcloths. And things I've found on my travels around Johannesburg. This weekend we did some picking in my mom in laws back rooms (we've done the garage and moved on to a storage room filled with trunks) We found her old tea set, in the most perfect condition, still in its box, still with petrified elastic bands holding the cutlery in place. Amazing!

Its the most gorgeous jade green colour with little deco details and not at all like the crappy plastic tea sets you find these days.

I got around to making this necklace who's bits and pieces have been starring up at me from my work bench for months now. Some gorgeous old cufflinks, buttons, coins and chain from Brimfield.

The embroidered cushion amongst all the other sofa stuff. I've had orders for these....who could'nt use a cushion that tells you 'It's OK!"

This chair that I found at the Hospice store! Whoever got rid of this must have a house full of awesomeness.

The 'little dear' cushion is from the new collection of prints, tried them on nice thick linen and they came out really fab. There were 8 printed of each design so let me know if you would like one.

'Planes over spain' also from the new range of prints.

'Lobster' is something you've seen before but re-imagined into a cushion. Oh, and the tiny anchor on the cushion next to it was a quickie.

'Scully' at home in the lounge also from recent print run. And that's it for now, hopefully this holiday I can find some time to do some more 'making.' Have a good week all. xxx

If you are listening. And that goes for you too Pottery Barn, PB Teen, Pottery Barn Baby and any other affiliated stores. Do you know that it is utterly impossible to access any of your websites from South Africa! And trust me I've tried everything! Different computers, different servers, approaches and nothing, let me tell you nothing works! All I ever get is this.

Then when you call them, they tell you that there is absolutely nothing wrong and that there are no restrictions. And are you crazy? Why would we do that? But I have heard that even in other non US countries that it is impossible to view their websites. Why oh why would you do this to us? I feel like I'm living a sanctioned life. Because when I visit blogs like the lovely Decor8. And see all the fabulous things that West Elm has at the moment I get so sad. Because I cant see any of it. I'm sorry Holly to just take these straight off you blog (numbers and all) but... Phil if you are reading this please can you order me a 2, a number 6, two number 7's in black and an 11. OMG I love number 6!

This sweet spot found thanks to Lisbeth from WabiSabi (one of my daily reads) which lead me to Loft Life Magazine..... which lead me to this. A gorgeous sugar warehouse conversion in the heart of Amsterdam. Imagine having all that space in such a cramped city. Bliss. The linen draped room divisions are gorgeous and the multiple sputnik lights... (well you know how I feel about those)

Adore the grey metal windows in this compact home. Its a great home model for a first build. Easily achievable and understated use of concrete floors and white painted brick. Keeping all the furnishings low key adds to its spacious feel. So cute....ohhh wanna build something so badly.

That lightning never strikes the same place twice. Well its a lie! For the second time in six weeks I've been without internet because out modem got fryed by lightning. We love highveld storms but not the lightning that comes with them. Anyway here I am back in blog land with the small things. These two Jaco Benade black and white oil paintings that my mom bought, the last of my favourite matches that I used on my sons birthday cake, original price tags that I found on some napkins and the little clay cow that all made my day.

James Hunifords Hamptons home is so perfect in her sobriety. The lovely greys and pale blues and greens so calming. Filled with interesting not obvious finds. But the thing I love the most is the unlikely chain sculpture between the two doors in the bedroom. Found via Est magazine and Elle Decor.

A little green

Every time I've visited a new nursery in the last few years I've inquired about these trees. A ficus of sorts that has a big green leaf and grows happily indoors given enough light. I first saw them in LA in a furniture showroom and even though they were planted in pots they had grown up and into the vaulted ceiling. I've never found one at a nursery in South Africa but I see them growing on the sides of the road like weeds. So tempted to don my balaclava in the middle of the night to go dig one up.

New cushions

I've been meaning to turn these sample fabric prints into cushions for ages and got my chance this morning. Allowing my kids to build forts with every single cushion and blanket in the house gave me the perfect opportunity to get them done. Most of them are printed on mens linen suiting and the others on plain white denim that I had lying around. Now that I've gotten these done I'm inspired to do a whole bunch more, all thats left to do is tidy up the bomb site in the lounge.

About Spring that makes you do these cliched things. Want to clean out and throw away. Plant herbs and potter in the garden. Obsessively. Had a fabulous weekend doing it and threw in the Smurf movie for good measure. A few things before I rush off and start my week.

Those who know where I live will perhaps have figured out why I called my blog Number 19. I've never really fully explained it. When I saw this image I thought it the perfect visual to explain how I feel about my home. Its our first, and I love it. I've dreamed about it my whole life.

De Hoop

This past weekend I celebrated a momentous occasion with my entire family. We attended the wedding of one of my cousins to his darling Kate. The wedding was held miles from home in the very remote De Hoop nature reserve. So planning had to be ... well perfect. No toilets and no power did nothing to deter the bride who organized it to within an inch. (Except for that bit when the best man had a tad too much to drink, took off all his clothes and decided to swim back to his bungalow on the other side of the river)

It's taken me three weeks to finally get my iPad up and running. I just downloaded an app that allows you to blog from your iPad. If things look a little different it's because I'm having fun experimenting with it. Here are a few new pics from my recent trip.
